Our Story

Our story begins several years ago with two registered nurses, who happen to be married to each other, Matt and Elizabeth. Matt was struggling with a severe health issue that was accompanied by multiple symptoms that were affecting his quality of life. After several close friends recommended cannabis therapy, Matt combed the internet for evidence-based research on the subject and was impressed with how much he found. This led to Matt and Elizabeth deciding together that nothing else had worked, so why not try cannabis. Matt applied for his medical card and started cannabis therapy, allowing him the quality of life that was stolen from him by his illness. Matt was so relieved to finally have control over his symptoms and yet several of Matt’s healthcare providers were convinced otherwise. They believed that all of his symptoms were in fact caused by using cannabis therapy and not his underlying health issues. This experience was painful and frustrating for both Matt and Elizabeth, as cannabis was the only thing to provide Matt some relief.

After these experiences and while attending nurse practitioner school together, they delved into why patients are experiencing this huge hurdle in their healthcare. One reason is that 90% of Medical schools do not teach about cannabis and cannabis therapy. This leaves patients feeling frustrated and overwhelmed when trying to advocate for themselves and their health. Emboldened by this information, Matt and Elizabeth focused most of their school research projects on cannabis and its medicinal value.

As they continued to learn more about cannabis and its positive effects on the body, the more they saw the need for a transformation in education and understanding. How revolutionary it would be for patients and providers to understand cannabis therapy through the unique lens of a healthcare provider who has also been a cannabis patient. And CannaCore was born.

The CannaCore team was created with like-minded individuals that also share a passion for people, and the desire to educate and support our local and global community on the benefits of cannabis therapy and patient advocacy.
